Author: La Tene

Date: 21 May 2008

Press Release

La Tene Maps are happy to announce the release of the 6th edition of the map " Scotland - Major Finfish Farms". The last edition of this map was published in 2002.

This new full colour map shows the location of all Finfish Aquaculture sites in Scotland together with the name of the operating company. A symbol on the sites shows what type of site it is - Hatchery, Smolt Unit, Marine Ongrowing together with the species farmed. Species covered include, Salmon, Trout, Char, Cod.

The map is available free to all Finfish Farmers in Scotland. The map was launched at the Aquaculture2008 conference and exhibition in Aviemore, Scotland on 20th May. Copies are available free to Scottish Aquaculture Producers via the website www.latene.com. Anyone else interested in this map may purchase it from the website at a cost of 30 Euros.

La Tene Maps Chief Executive John Coleman speaking at the release of the map said " Since the last edition was published in 2002 there has been a major consolidation in the industry resulting in a decline in the number of companies operating. However the number of sites operating is only slightly smaller. What we are seeing is a leaner and tighter mature industry. This is certainly true for Salmon and Trout. From our research it seems that there is less interest now in farming Char, Cod or Halibut as evidenced by the decline in number of companies farming these species and by lack of activity on those sites engaged in farming these species".
