New Marine Renewables E-Learning Project

Aquatic Renewable Energy Technologies (Aqua-RET) is an EU Funded Leonardo Da Vinci Project. which commenced in the last Quarter of 2006 and runs till September 2008. Aqua-RET sets out to provide an online e-learning resource promoting and explaining aquatic renewable energy technologies, and the environmental considerations important to consider when planning and selecting sites for generating plant.

Planners and energy advisors will be able to use the modules to develop their own professional competencies whilst also using the resources to inform, educate and stimulate the discussion and decision-making process between the different involved stakeholders, government officials, regulators, conservation and heritage advisors, land and seabed owners and professionals providing advice and services.

The partnership includes 8 partners from 6 countries (IE, CY, EL, PT, RO, UK), which will facilitate dissemination activities across Europe and contribute to technology transfer actions within the sector.

John Coleman, Chief Executive of La Tene Maps and one of the principal writers of the project said . 2007 will be spent developing and collating the resourcesas well as promoting awareness of the project, In 2008 we will then start building and testing the online material” . It is intended to have poster presentations on Aqua- RET at t he ALL Energy Conference in Aberdeen, Scotland this May and at the European Wave Energy Conference in Porto, Portugal in September.
